I would not have known, except both men were members of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate, a Syro-MaIabar religious order. I expect that many Western Catholics have had contact with Syro-Malabar Catholics without knowing it. I wonder, like you mentioned, how the Syro-Malabar identity will continue with its history of Latinization and current globalization. I am glad a compromise was reached. And on today his feast day, may St. Thomas the Apostle pray for India.

And yet this was Rome's entire strategy.
The rumored restrictions on the Latin Mass should be read with this entire fiasco in mind. Alongside Fiducia supplicans, we're learning the limits of papal power, and how it's one thing to say "do this or you're a schismatic", and quite another to actually follow through on that threat.
It is very difficult to shoot an entire mutinous army. So, when most of the African bishops mutineed on Fiducia Supplicans, the Vatican found that it could accommodate African culture.
I’m glad to see a ‘cease-fire’ of sorts has been found. No doubt St Thomas has been working overtime on his wayward children.
The reality of the diaspora Syro-Malabar communities and the effect it’s going to have on their ‘character’ is something that almost all Eastern Churches are going to have to grapple with, especially as subsequent generations integrate with their respective adopted cultures.

If one man retreats, it is called running away.
If a regiment runs away, it is called a retreat.
