While there would be other issues with it, I could see Thomas being given the appointment as a way to send him off into the sunset on an appointment he likely would very much enjoy.
Frank Pavone would get it since he has a red MAGA baseball cap still superglued to his head. I have a picture if you want it. He was still wearing clerics in the picture.
When Santorum was running for President, he told Glen Beck that he would abolish the State Dept. Appealing to his base? I presume he was not so foolish as to believe that such was possible or even remotely advisable, but even so... that he said such a thing is, shall we say, indicative. And any number of children should not be thought to compensate for that sort of stupidity for someone seeking a public position with foreign policy responsibilities. And, of course, as Ambassador, he would, in fact, be working for the Department he proposed to abolish.
My money is on someone who can help him further the Abraham Accords and keep Russia in its box. Maybe Newt this time. We’ll see. Maybe Butker if his knee is blown for good.
On a single occasion, her then press secretary said she was Catholic. She never said so public. Her parents are atheists. She did once mention she was not baptized, as others in her town were. She has never been known to take Communion in the Catholic church and was married in a Protestant ceremony.
I thought at one point she did say she had been baptized. I always wondered about that, as her father was a communist party official. If she actually said the contrary, that might make more sense. But it is strange that so many on all political sides casually refer to her as a Catholic when at the very least she has been non-practicing for all her adult life.
Such a well written article. And the comments 😃 ! Think of the state of Europe in the next four years. How good would it be to have a great statesman in place.
Given what we’ve seen so far from most of the picks from Mar-A-Lago, most of the cabinet picks have been either staunch Trump loyalists, or conservative TV personalities. The question is, will Trump pick somebody actually good and competent, like his pick of Sen. Rubio for Secretary of State, or will be pick somebody who wants to stir the pot, like about 70% of his cabinet picks so far.
If he goes with somebody good and competent, then I think Trump will pick Rick Santorum.
If he picks somebody who wants to stir the pot, here are some names I wouldn’t be shocked to see. Now, whether there would be at least 51 votes in the Senate for any of these folks and whether the Vatican would accept any of these picks is another matter. I wouldn’t vote for any of these people in the Senate and I hope Trump picks somebody Iike Rick Santorum, but I think it all depends who has Trump’s ear and what mood he’s in when he makes the decision:

Maybe he just starts with the list of Pillar readers, and picks one out of a hat??
Be careful what you wish for--Cardinal Becciu is (technically) on that list.
Beat me to it!
Ed. for ambassador. He would rock the official meetings, but the social events would eventualy kill him.
Can't believe the Pillar never reached out to me for my comments on my pending appointment. The state of modern journalism!
I nominate Bishop Strickland because he will make the Holy See go to an ophthalmologist.
I was going to say him or Frank Pavone. Just for the entertainment value.

James Altman
Roger Stone.
At this point I've got $30 on Jim Gaffigan after the Al Smith dinner.

Given is presumptive two annulments and three wives, Newt has certainly mastered diplomacy at home. ✅

Not so fast on those presumptive annulments.
Would JD or Ed accept the position? What about Taylor Marshall, who offered an opening prayer for a Trump campaign rally in 2020?
Justice Thomas would be great but maybe Bishop Strickland? I hear he has some free time....
Instead of Newt Gingrich’s 3rd wife, maybe Newt himself.
"His wife, Melania, is Catholic,"

I wonder if their son is baptized.
In the Episcopalian church
She’s also very much pro-abortion, as she said so herself in her recently published memoir.

Would Justice Thomas like to go through confirmation hearings again? I couldn’t blame him if he declined on that basis alone.
They are all going to be recess appointments under the new regime.
Trump likes TV news personalities, so maybe Raymond Arroyo? 😉

Stir the pot picks:
Steve Bannon
Matt Schlapp
Milo Yiannopolous
Sean Hannity
Bill O’Reilly
Laura Ingraham
Raymond Arroyo
One more potential stir the pot pick: Frank Pavone
I think it will be an outsider. Someone that we don't know, but that knows the Vatican well.
