This cover up makes the whole thing look worse, honestly. And it is going to do nothing but cause further pain and strife on the issue due to how it's being mismanaged.

Unless the spokesperson was lied to. If you have your wits about you, it's typically more effective to have someone who believes what they're saying tell the lie.
