"Unlike the 1970 accommodation, however, the 1885 indult did not actually change the calendar. The feast would still fall on Thursday, but it could also be celebrated on Sunday. "
This is so much better. Why isn't Ascension and Corpus Christi celebrated on both Thursday and Sunday? It makes the entire calendar so much worse, particularly with Ascension. I get celebrating it on Sunday, but why not also celebrate them on the Thursday before and removing all the confusion? Obviously some places will make a bigger deal out of the Thursday celebration and others will make a bigger deal out of the Sunday, depending on local circumstances.
For a while I have been attending a local novus ordo daily Mass and singing in a schola at a Traditional Mass on Sundays. So, I like this idea, as I have been missing out on the liturgical celebration of these feasts entirely.
In many ways I am always surprised at how long it actually took this feast to develop!
this is a great deep dive, thanks so much! Very useful in helping me prepare my homily.
