I'm with your wife. I enjoyed the Catholic Near East Welfare Association dinner last year. But I understand the shortcomings. But if there is an issue with prelates hobnobbing with the affluent who can buy tickets, the bigger problem is that the prelates don't ever interact with the laity at all as we finance the Church.
"dooming us all to live in a world in which Elon Musk has privatized space exploration"
I don't feel doomed by a company that has restored launch capability to the US, while introducing reusability and drastically reducing the cost of launching NASA astronauts to orbit. Plus using said capability to help improve rural communication via Starlink at a very reasonable cost to consumers.
Meanwhile NASA continues to throw taxpayer money at the failing SLS program, which is essentially a MIC jobs program.
Did not expect to wake up today and see a mention of Robert Hanssen (who just passed a few months ago btw) in a Pillar article. You just never know..
I don't think I even realized this took place in non-election years.
Great list! Doesn't it make you proud to be Catholic? I'd want to attend every one of those speeches.
You guys are the best. The very BEST. What a fascinating article.
Don't know how you come up with these ideas, but I sure enjoyed this one!
Clare Boothe Luce's life would make a pretty good biopic.

Clare Boothe Luce sounds like a fascinating person, especially in her conversion. Is there a good biography you would recommend?
I had exactly the same thought!
After 1952 no Dem nominee for President should have been invited.
