// While a handful of Catholics have responded with cynicism to the Chicago healing garden, Hoffman said he received “outrageous support” from nearly all others. //
I would imagine that those to whom this sort of thing does not appeal are considerably more than a handful. But it's very likely well meaning, and I hope it helps.
I'm so glad that Mr. Hoffmann was believed and respected by archdiocese officials. These stories are horrendous, but the fact that he was able to find a community and have his concerns validated is very hopeful.
Thank you for reporting this story. I have been waiting for the offering of mere monetary compensation for harms that break relationships of infinite value to be questioned. And NOT, BTW that the recipients of these grievous settlements should be questioned and further harmed, but rather those providing the compensation as though money could ever be sufficient.
No doubt monetary settlements of any size will motivate false claims years later, but it never should have come to this. I dare imagine that many who really were abused would rather have been believed and supported toward the restoration of what was broken. It just seems that if we as the body of Christ in the world are now nearing financial bankruptcy for past moral failings in Faith to trust in God's desire to support the workings of Love among our members, then let us repent and return to real humility and the service of the weak by the strong.
Thank you for this incredible story. Do you have more information about the planning council or how to get involved with helping?
