One wonders if this is a reaction against a Eucharistic Congress. I don't believe that the organizers are conscious of this, necessarily, but their boss is.

> "We will make a better, kinder, loving society"

Even edgelords don't stand up and say "we will make a worse, crueler, hating society" (they say "we will make a better, kinder, loving society", or, choose one of "we will keep you and your loved ones safe" or "we will protect your freedom".) Humans desire what is good, and the only way to mess that up is to get humans to go all-in on a lesser good than what we were created for, which unfortunately is so easy to do that we already do it to ourselves all the time, though not usually as theatrically as this.

I will ask Bl. Bartolo Longo to pray for their conversions.

Out of curiosity, who is Bl. Longo?

Religion: "the service and worship of God or the supernatural." If they are allegedly a non-theist comedy club then one would think that they should not be able to organize as a religious organization and are, arguably, engaged in tax fraud. I'll note that I have not reviewed the Georgia statutes at issue but strikes me as something worth lookin into.

I think the issue here is that the US does not offer a very specific or good definition for “church,” which leaves the door open for the Church of Satan and others to classify themselves as such

It's worth noting that Baudelaire, like many if not most avant-garde literary figures of his generation, was a late-life or deathbed convert to Catholicism. Let's pray the same conversion for these tragically misguided souls.

“I have no gods. I am the master. Only the sheep await the slaughter.”

This is the true heart of a Black Mass. All of the religious mockery is downstream of this deeply held belief, and constitutes the only genuine worshipful aspect of a Black Mass. When one is avowedly, proudly atheist the only conclusion is that we are gods. Such a view leads to very dark places. The sin of Pride has always been deadly.

"The Satanic Temple says it is a non-theistic organization founded in 2013, which says its mission is to promote skepticism about religions and other “superstitious beliefs,” in favor of, it claims, self-reliance, empathy, personal autonomy, and rationality."

Yet, they claim they are a religion (filed with the gov't), practice religious ceremonies, and those religious ceremonies happen to be the evil "opposite" of Catholic ceremonies (why not Protestant, Islamic, Jewish, Hindu ceremonies?). For a group that says they are not religious and despise religion, they seem to really be working hard to be one. Satan is a liar and the father of lies. I wonder what Satanists are.

It's all very serious and bad, but I can't help but be amused at how lame and cognitively dissonant the satanists are. They want to mock the Eucharist, but they take great pains to deny having stolen a consecrated Host. They are rebels who want to rage against God, but they don't want to get caught up in a civil court case. Not to mention, that little chant bemoaning being kicked out of the earthly paradise, but also that was apparently a good thing, because paradise was slavery. Even as a larp, I can't imagine someone buying into something so lame

I have a brother who a part of this group. He is every bit as lame and tiresome to deal with this as you can imagine this group is. Now this "black mass" is just a larp trying to get people upset with them, but I will say the one thing that is truly a sacred ritual to them is abortion. It's a true inversion of the sacrifice of the Cross. (i.e Jesus says "This is my body, given up for you", the wicked screech "This is my body! Give yourself up for me!") He cussed me out and went on a long tirade, stating that "You're no longer my brother" when Roe v. Wade was overturned.

The most lurid accounts of the Black Mass come from Paris in the reign of Louis XIV during the "Affair of the Poisons." Madame de Montespan was accused of requesting these to retain her position as the king's favorite mistress. The ceremonies reportedly involved Host desecration, ritual sex, and even the sacrifice of an infant. Several people--not Madame de Montespan, of course--were executed for these blasphemies. There were Black Magic groups in late 19th C Paris, too.

I'd recommend "The Devil's Best Trick, How the Face of Evil Disappeared," by Randall Sullivan, to bring home the reality of the devil at work. An excellent in-depth investigative reporting. Sobering.
