My brother-in-law's great uncle was taken in for questioning in Venezuela this week but was thankfully released after only a few hours. I'm thankful for Edgar's reporting on the situation in VZ and inspired by the people's resilience in the face of such persecution.
Ortega's pivot from firebrand atheist in the '80s to pro-life Catholic in the mid-2000s was certainly welcomed by Nicaragua's Catholics, both lay and clerical. And why wouldn't it have been? If an erstwhile tormenter and oppressor says that he now supports you, you welcome that pivot. However, Ortega's treatment of the Church since he regained power certainly does raise questions about his sincerity. Was this just a case of "Managua is worth a mass"?" Perhaps

Considering President Ortega's high-profile conversion to Catholicism, I am still at a total loss as to what the actual motivation is.
I believe they supported the people in the original protests against inflicted higher financial costs.
Thank you for this update. 🙏🏻
