Ed., first I want to say you, your wife, and baby to be born are in my prayers. Obviously I have no clue what it’s like to be an expecting parent but it’s got to be wonderful and scary. Just remember Mary and Joseph do know and are right there with you in it all.

You wrote “My priest usually rounds off the homily by pointing out that, had I the faintest idea how much my life would change if I really gave my heart to God, I would probably run screaming from the church.” That I know a bit about and it’s true. Further, had I known how consecrating myself totally to Mary would upend my life—all for the good—I wonder if I would have done it. Giving ourselves to God takes an incredible amount of trust. We cannot imagine how He will use us. It’s wonderful and scary. But grace is there for the asking. That’s true for parents too. So ask for it constantly. It costs nothing, is freely given, is infinitely abundant, and helps get us to Heaven.

Now, about those Red Sox…..
