Can you say (something like) “This deal is bearing invisible fruit?” I get it retrospectively - “X happened and caused Y, but was only recognized 10 years later with hindsight.” But in the present? Surely, even the vaguest of fruits would be in some way visible, otherwise you wouldn’t know that there were fruits at all.

I guess it could be really literal. “They wouldn’t talk to us before, and they do now, so even if we have no concrete things to show we see the fruit.” Unfortunately I suspect it’s more like, “It’s worth it, trust me, and stop asking how.”
