As someone who spends a lot of time listening to abuse survivors, I would urge caution with that kind of assertion. The reality is that abusers come all over the theological spectrum, and assuming that a certain “type” of priest is more likely to commit abuse can blind us to abuse perpetrated by people on the opposite end of the spectrum.
Too true, the idea that ideology will solve the issue of abuse in the Church or protect clergy from being predators needs to be expunged to bring about real healing for victims and accountability for abusers and enablers.
What would be things that victims think to change beyond current attempts in the Church to address the issue of abuse?
Now if we could just get the American authorities to authorize a similar study on McCarrick we here in the US might get a functional from top to bottom Church.
The US church is “running out the clock” of McCarrick’s mortal life just as Opus Dei ran out the clock on Fr. C. John McCloskey. An old football trick.
There's a huge difference between someone with one or two accusations and someone who regularly abused people. And it appears Opus Dei took action as soon as they heard of the first accusation whereas my understanding is that McCarrick continued to remain powerful even after a diocese had paid off one of his victims.
Don't hold your breath, Sue. Francis has just appointed Cardinal Robert McElroy -- longtime McCarrick crony/enabler/beneficiary/protector -- head of the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C., where he will hobnob with the powerful Georgetown establishment and other custodians of the decadent McCarrick legacy.

Sad to read about. I want the accusations to be fake, but considering the volume an investigation is warranted.
