The *average* case is far less severe now than 2020. But depending on what you get, what you were exposed to, and other vulnerabilities--well, yeah. Get well. The enduring fatigue is no joke.
You know in the Lion King where Mufasa is telling Simba how everything the light touches is their's and forewarns him to never go to the shadowy area? That area is Reddit.
While I have been anxiously awaiting Starting Seven's return after the New Year, I think would be happy to wait another week while you recover. I would just as anxiously wait another week. Take care.
Hey Eric, the good news is that Starting Seven is produced by our very own Luke Coppen, who does not have Covid (please God!) You should ahve gotten it in your inbox this morning!
1. I wish you and your family well and a speedy recovery from COVID disease.
2. I marvel that we have a Pope who strongly discourages if not outlaws the Latin Mass, yet every decree to promulgate is given a Latin title that effectively none of the faithful masses can understand or even interpret. I get that it's technically two different issues, but not necessarily to us lay mortals.
3. I'm sick and tired of hearing about "unity." We have a Pope who preaches unity but what he really means is everyone needs to fall in line with his worldview. Critics and detractors with legitimate countering viewpoints get not only fired, but all their furniture thrown on the front lawn.
4. We have a Pope who embraces "unity" while also embracing world leaders such as President Biden, who manifests the beast with his promotion and advocacy for the killing of more than 600,000 unborn humans annually in the US alone. Weak Cardinals and Bishops such as Wilton Gregory follow suit. https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2023/01/11/what-the-data-says-about-abortion-in-the-u-s-2/
2. The Latin title comes from the first two words of the Latin version of the document. Which is now typically a translation from the original Spanish or Italian. But everyone references the Latin version because (I think) it's the legally binding version in the Latin Church. It is 2 different issues because the Latin Mass isn't about the language (could solve that by just giving permission to celebrate the Tridentine Rite in the vernacular) but about a Rite developed organically by Saints out of Apostolic Tradition. I suspect his motivation is actually about adhering to Vatican 2 and its aftermath. I'm not convinced there are many people born after 1980 who care about that.
3. 4. Unity is not found in liturgy or language or worldview or policy, but in One Lord and Baptism and Faith. That's a worldview I can fall in line with. The other kind of unity is more properly called "uniformity". It is a superficial union, rather like how nostalgia is a superficial attraction, and getting along by not saying anything discomfiting is a superficial relationship.
5. I'd like the contraception and pornography rates within the Church to go down to maybe 20% before we start worrying about climate change.
Honestly R/Catholicism is fairly well run subreddit. Mods seem like they try to keep trolls out and a lot of people come with real and challenging questions and most of the time get good answers
Well considering how militantly atheist most of reddit is I think its saying a lot . As for the fist tank people. I think a lot of it comes from answer the same questions over and over. With a healthy amount of "Internet culture" Sarcasm has rarely solved anything in the real word.
I actually haven't spent time there, so I have no idea how toxic or healthy it is. I just know that there is one, and went for the topic most likely to get Catholic keyboard warriors all hot and bothered. Glad to hear it's healthy!

Yeah r/catholicism is solid and well moderated. There are a couple of verified priests on the moderation team and there's even a bishop that posts on there every once in awhile. Catholic Twitter is far, far worse and attracts all of the extremists.
Reddit in general is hit or miss on whether a sub is good or not as it's highly dependent on the mods and the general helpfulness of active members. Some subs for niche hobbies are great and you'll get solid advice, others will eat you alive for daring to admit you're new or unknowledgable on the topic.
That will work out just fine. r/Catholicism is a Catholic subreddit, not "Catholic." The moderators discourage anti-Catholic trolls and sedevacantism.
I think that if you have looked at one subreddit, you've looked at one subreddit, not at Reddit. And you have to pick your subreddits. Some are great, others . . . not so great.
Praying you and your wife will soon be well. Thanks for trying to update us. The comments on VOS ESTES are discouraging and appear to be vague. In our parish after going on 5, yes I said 5 years we await Rome’s response to the suspension of a good priest but one seemingly disliked by an absent bishop. Delighted to know some of these Bishops will be leaving soon. We need new thoughts and men who actually support our Holy Father. The tacit silence by some is deafening!
Feel for you with the Covid bout - my family had a similar experience just prior to Christmas. Hope you're feeling better soon!
The section about merging dioceses/parishes really hits home as a likely theme. Especially since my bishop (in the UK) chose to kick off the New Year with the news that, in the space of a year, we'll be moving from 75 parishes to 11. Seems he might be trying to sneak it out when people are paying less attention on the first working day of the year.
Wow, my mom always just bought a little fish tank and threw some 27¢ goldfish in there. Of course, a lot of them didn't last a week, but it was a good lesson in detachment, I guess?
Hi JD - I hope you are feeling better soon! I just wanted to comment, the National Eucharistic Congress this year will be the first national eucharistic congress since 1941, when a national eucharistic congress was held in Minneapolis-St. Paul. The event in Philadelphia in 1976 was part of the series of International Eucharistic Congresses. The international series continues and will be held in Quito, Ecuador in September 2024.
Reporting on the implementation of 'Vos estis lux mundi' (how do I make italics here?) would be welcome. But I hope you continue with what attracted me to The Pillar. This is a problem that world-wide procedures from Rome cannot solve. It starts not with the Pope but with the laity, not with Rome but parish, and not limited to protocols "for the protection of minors" but also with transparency and accountability (to the laity) of parish finances. When a pastor has no transparency or accountability to the parish laity, he thinks he can get away with anything (including with the more terrible things). When, even while retaining all of the decision making prerogatives of a pastor, he has to disclose and explain these actions, he understands he is being watched. Sunlight is the best disinfectant.
Sorry it's been a bad bout! Get well!

Yes, I see my mistake now. Did I happen to mention how much I love The Pillar?.
Oh thanks! That's very kind! We're glad you love it.
My comments:
1. I wish you and your family well and a speedy recovery from COVID disease.

I marvel that we have a Pope who strongly discourages if not outlaws the Latin Mass, yet every decree to promulgate is given a Latin title that effectively none of the faithful masses can understand or even interpret. 5. While Pope Francis ducks confronting right vs. wrong in respect for human life, such as abortion, Ukraine and Israel/Palestine; he instead drives down the easier road of climate change and Laudato Si https://www.vatican.va/content/francesco/en/encyclicals/documents/papa-francesco_20150524_enciclica-laudato-si.html. I'm all in favor of that, after Catholic Church leadership restores giving tackling abortion #1 priority.
Thank you, John Seng

I dare you go to the Catholicism subreddit and ask a question about the TLM.
I think I'll pass, thank you!
No, you need to start a scrupulously post with "Is it a sin if..."

awesome! That's a welcome respite from Fish Tank Reddit.

Now do commentary on r/rockhounds & r/whatsthisrock, lol. My fav is r/whatsthisrock for amateurs like myself. Good info and equally good rock jokes.
Feel better soon! So sorry this round has been bad for you guys - do not push yourself too hard to get back into it!

We had tadpoles and they were doing fine until someone used tap water. They all died within 24 hours of that sad event.

That's what we do, Kurt! Sunlight is our bread and better. Don't worry about that.
I went to confession once because I was taking too much delight in the vengeance found in r/treelaw.
On the other hand, learning about the legal aspects of trees and tree ownership was *fascinating.*
going there right now!
JD: Reddit is rancorous, divisive, and corrosive.
Also JD: going there right now!
bingo
It's a wretched hive of scum and villainy with pockets of fantastic, interesting people mixed in, ain't it?
I have covid for the second time! It’s awful that our fellow human beings won’t protect all of us.
Lockdowns forever!
