One thing I would like to point out about the idea that "if you'd waited, you'd have known everything," is that that isn't true. we only know anything because the diocese did round one, that got reported in the media, and that compelled Martins to respond, followed by the diocese.

The purpose of the initial story is both to inform, and to catalyze fuller reporting. the other stuff comes out of the initial report.
Hope that helps inform your discussion. Carry on. Thanks for being charitable to each other.
You just framed the objection wrong again. How can you be this obtuse? No one was saying to wait until everything was reported. The argument was in the way you worded and regurgitated the initial reports and a lack of discretion for how damaging this could be to a priest. I offered an alternate form of your initial reports on your earlier post. JD the apostles warn us in their letters not to be quick to speak against an a presbyter and when it is done it is to be done when things have been established by at least two witnesses. A priest is one anointed. And I would direct you to David in the OT in how he dealt with evil King Saul, who had been anointed. The reporting was careless and lacked careful check on sources and claims being made. All to get your story out. When Christ comes on the clouds of heaven, an excuse to break a story quick with the risk of libeling a priest….well, may God be merciful.
I'm trying to say this charitably. I do not think you want to protect abusers. But this "touch not the Lord's anointed" mentality towards just telling the truth (and no one, not even Fr. Martins' lawyers, has disputed any facts that The Pillar has reported) is exactly the kind of thing that enables abusers.
What's anointing got to do with anything? We're all anointed here. I've been anointed at baptism, confirmation, and the anointing of the sick. Is it a figure of speech?
