It looks like the MK-82 is an unguided bomb released at low altitude, so I would venture to guess that since it was a formation of 2 fighters, the lead aircraft inserted the incorrect release point into his flight plan, and the wingman just released when lead told him to. Still not sure how being 5 miles off course didn't raise any red flags to lead, though, since every aspect of the bomb run should've been thoroughly pre-briefed and the flight plan should've been verified, but this is the simplest explanation I can come up with given the info in the article.
