No one in the Trump Administration is going to care what Cardinal McElroy has to say about anything. Besides his personally being tied to Uncle Ted, the Church in general is a greatly diminished public voice. 60 percent of mass attending Catholics voted for Trump and support his policies. That’s all the administration will care about.

Yeah, we've already had an actual Catholic President who demonstrated agreement with most if not all of McElroy's positions, including his heterodox Catholic positions. The majority of actual practicing US Catholics rejected this stuff. Plus McElroy has a questionable record on covering up clergy SA, as recently reported by Bree Dail and others. It's pretty much meet the new boss, same as the old boss(es).
Clerics like McElroy are a big reason why the influence of a Cardinal Archbishop of Washington is much less than it once was.
I agree that the Trump Administration can ignore McElroy. Look at the baggage he is carrying from San Diego. One positive point in his favour, as Washington diocese has money problems. McElroy has experience of leading a diocese into bankruptcy.
