Why do I suspect that everyone will be off the hook on all the serious charges, with some nominal "misdemeanor" convictions for some of the parties for the judges and prosecution to save face?

There won’t be across the board convictions because, based on the Pillar’s coverage, the case isn’t that strong in many cases. Whereas it seems quite clear that Becciu broke Vatican financial laws, whether he did so out of good will or not. So I think some kind of conviction is probably coming for him.

I have never met Cardinal Becciu, so I can't speak to his character, but everything I have read in The Pillar so far definietly makes Becciu sound like a lying liar who lies. Also, why would a truly innocent person take an interview like this?

So some people don't deserve to be in there: "Speaking to Rai, Becciu went further, claiming that, as part of his reforming record, he “also took the liberty of pointing out to the Pope that certain people did not deserve to be in the Vatican.” " Truer words were never spoken...

Is Becciu Nixon? Or is he more of a sketchy "off the books" player along the lines of an E. Howard Hunt or a G. Gordon Liddy? I'd guess the latter. It's interesting that Becciu continues to maintain that he was acting at the direction and with the approval of "The Boss," despite disavowal of the latter. It's also interesting that Becciu seems to cling to the hope that The Boss will ultimately swoop in and save him. Not entirely sure how to interpret Becciu's seemingly improbable faith/loyalty, as it raises more questions than it answers.
