I've been blessed to also experience the Byzantine Rite during Holy Week and it is so moving. The same but different, and very powerful. We have a beautiful Mother Church.
I was saying something yesterday about Lent beginning to “wind down,” when I realized, “No!” It ends with a cacophony of energy, sights, and sounds. All crashing into the awe of the Resurrection.
The reflections here are beautiful and add so much depth to what I was thinking. Thank you for opening my eyes to so many more ways of entering into Holy Week than I’d ever considered before.
Wonderful reflection by Bishop Varden, whose book The Shattering of Loneliness I heartily recommend. Given the statement the Scandinavian bishops just issued, it is surprising but very heartening to see some "light from the North" emerging at this hour.
Bishop Eric is clearly a light that the Lord is making ready for a renewal of the church more profound than the mess which is quickly being identifiable as with the current offering invoked by Rome
If Pope Francis wants to make an unexpected choice at the peripheries, I think he could do worse than choosing Bishop Varden as a cardinal. (Though I suspect the good bishop would prefer to demur, as he seems quite sensible.)
There are times, such as while reading this reflection from Bishop Varden, when I feel like I've been allowed a brief glimpse into the eternal plan of the Almighty. My perspective, so myopic, curved in on itself, and warped, is briefly corrected. If even such a limited view enlivens my will, my mind, and my heart this much, then I can only marvel in hope at what awaits us in God's gracious time. Thank you to the Pillar, as always and a blessed triduum to all!

So beautiful. Also, really appreciate the very thoughtful questions asked.
I really love reading the interviews with the bishop, very shareable.
This bishop is incredible. I know he would never want it, but the Church needs him (and bishops like him).
Great article. And I love the art of James Tissot.

Amen, thank you!!
Credit where credit is due: I stole parts of my Easter-Day homily from this interview.
