I read your account of Pia disappearing with tears streaming down my face, as I also have a daughter with Down Syndrome, Elise, aged 22, and have been through the same experience, including the cops, not once but twice...and your story brought back all the emotions of both loss and fear, and of relief and joy, I remember experiencing. Elise is the most delightful (and the easiest to parent) of my ten offspring, and you have reminded me to give thanks for her every day!
Praise God that Pia was found safely! My son wondered off at an amusement park when he was about 2 years old when my husband and I briefly looked away. Apparently he had followed my father out the door of the attraction we were visiting without either of use noticing. We only had to search for a few minutes, but the panic was overwhelming! This experience really helped me relate to the 5th Joyful mystery of the Rosary in a much deeper way.
Reading about your Pia experience has got my own adrenaline going. I need a cup of tea. Thank goodness for the outcome and the angels who keep us safe. God bless.
Same thing with my little brother. We were all sitting around watching television in a semicircle (five of us supposedly watching him while my parents were out) and realized he was gone. Searched everywhere then outside then up the road (rural). He was half a mile up the road, going for a walk by himself.
Yes, much thanks to God for his protection of the innocent.
The woman that found Pia is my mom! She has years of experience finding lost children, since she was often tracking ME down. One time when I was quite young we were at the grocery store. She turned away and I was gone. She searched throughout the store to no avail. I had slipped out of the store, gone down to the nearby ice cream shop and talked them into a free ice cream cone and was wandering back to the grocery store, with ice cream on my face no doubt.
Praise God Pia was found!! One of mine went missing for an hour once (it turned out he was hiding), and it was horrible. I was physically ill once the adrenaline wore off. But yes, it definitely gives you an entirely new appreciation for the fifth joyful mystery!

Thanks, Christina. God bless you both.
Thank you for sharing your Pia story. Moving — and well-written.

Praise the Lord that Pia was found! I have now forgotten everything else in this article.
Hopefully you'll recall JD still owes me $50

Football saints: THIS was worth the price of admission! Thank you.

If you’re not an American, well, ....
Well indeed. Here in England we do celebrate thanksgiving day somewhat earlier, as GK Chesterton reminds us 'we were glad to see the back of them'.
One of mine is Sheep Number 100. Thank you for letting us rejoice with you that Pia is found.
